Please note - Rotorua museum is closed for the foreseeable future as the building does not meet current earthquake safety standards. But go and take a look at this fantastic building anyway - its fantastic.
Rotorua Museum is an award winning establishment. Located in the world famous Bath House building, the displays on the devastating Mt. Tarawera eruption of 1886 and the excellent cinema film are truly fascinating. The museum also hosts displays on the 28 Maori Battalion of the Second World War. The famous Rotorua Spa or the Great South Seas Spa as it was known was the New Zealand government's first tourism venture and the buildings and equipment are restored to show you how luxury was enjoyed in the early 20th century. Just a few minutes walk away are the Blue Baths, these art deco public baths are a relaxing place to enjoy Rotorua's geothermal waters.
